Mandatory
Every adult leader is required to maintain the following certifications. Other adults who attend campouts and pack events are strongly encouraged to complete these certifications.
Youth Protection Training (YPT)
YPT is the abuse-prevention training program required by Scouts BSA for adults in Scouting. The course consists of pre-recorded online videos and a short test. The training is good for 2 years.

Ethics and Integrity in Ministry (EIM)
EIM is the abuse-prevention training program required by the Diocese of Austin. Since we use facilities of Holy Family Catholic School, all adult volunteers must complete this training every 3 years. You may have already completed this training if you volunteer in your own parish.
Refresher courses are normally taught at local parishes several times per year, but in-person training has been suspended due to COVID-19. For now, the refresher is offered online.
NOTE: If you have never taken this training before, ask the Committee Chair for more guidance before starting a new application.

Position-Specific Training
Scouts BSA requires additional training specific to each adult leadership role (Cubmaster, Den Leader, Committee Member). Most of this training is offered online.

Optional
Beyond the mandatory training, Scouts BSA offers many other training opportunities for adults. Learn more about optional training on the Capitol Area Council website.
